Rights group blames FG over Hauwa’s execution by Boko Haram
By Steve Oko
A human rights group, Peoples Rights Organisation has blamed the President Muhammadu Buhari – led Federal Government for the brutal execution of aid worker, Hauwa Liman by Boko Haram.
Spokesman of the group, Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku, said federal government’s docility and softness in handling terrorists caused the death of Hauwa and other innocent victims of the Islamic terror group.
He wondered why Buhari who was swift in proscribing a peaceful organisation like the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra , IPOB, after branding the members terrorists is treating an internationally recognized terror group with kids gloves.
Comrade Njoku in a press statement on behalf of the group argued that if Buhari had treated Boko Haram as terrorists and not common criminals the group’s activities would not have festered.
The group wondered why the effect of the huge financial spendings in the fight against terrorism is not felt as Boko Haram has continued to operated with impunity in the North East zone.
“It is very sad and heartbreaking that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of Nigeria was unable to secure the lives of the innocents held captive by the Salafist and Janjaweed Boko Haram Islamic terrorists in the Northeast of Nigeria despite the huge financial engagements committed in the fight against Boko Haram terrorism.
“We are deeply saddened to note that the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) being a faction of Boko Haram terrorists, on Monday, October 15, 2018, finally executed Hauwa Leman, an innocent humanitarian aid worker with the International Committee of the Red-Cross(ICRC) less than 24 hours after the ICRC pleaded with the Federal Government to avert her killing. The terrorists also promised to keep Leah Shaibu, the Dapchi school girl as ‘a slave for life’.
“Nigerians will recall that the late Hauwa Leman, was abducted during a raid on a military facility in Ran, Kala Balge of Borno State in March, 2018. Four (4) soldiers, four (4) policemen and three humanitarian aid workers were murdered in that attack.
“It is very unfortunate that the Buhari-led administration does not respect human life and dignity. Before and after the deadline issued by her abductors, the federal government did not intensify significant efforts to save her life upon the soft condition given by the terrorists.
“Prior to the 2015 Presidential elections, Muhammadu Buhari, vowed to fulfil his campaign promise of protecting the lives of Nigerians and securing its territories from the menace of Boko Haram and other violent extremists in the country but has utterly failed.
“In our opinion, the APC-led government has failed in all the purviews of the fundamental human rights of the Nigerian people especially the right to life, right to freedom, right against exploitation and right to freedom of religion.
“This present government should know that human rights are freedoms established by custom or international agreement that impose standard of conduct on all nations. These rights are distinct from civil liberties which are freedoms established by the universal covenants and declarations which Nigeria is treaty to.
“They should have it in mind that human rights are commonly understood as inalienable fundamental and natural rights to which a person is inherently entitled as a human being. Therefore, the late Hauwa Leman had the right to be alive today. And we put it to the Federal Government that they failed Nigerians in that regard”.
On why the Western World is winning the war on terror, Njoku said :
“When Western hostages were executed on a live TV by the All Queda terrorist group, the West made a vow that each person involved would be tracked down, brought to justice or killed.
” Usama Bin Ladin was not speared. The machinery of Interpol, FBI, CIA, M15, KGB, Mossad and all the NATO intelligence were put in action. And within 2 years, most of them had gone in drone strikes including Jihadi John, a London petty criminal turned executioner and his criminal cohorts. They were captured alive by the US backed militia.
“These achievements were observed by the covert infiltration, dollars used to buy informants, satellite and drone imagery and devastating precise air strikes from reaper drones. Hell kite missiles were taking out the enemies from 1000 miles away even as they sleep”.
The rights group frowned at what it called ” the purchase of obsolete aircraft and armories with huge amount of money without appropriation and positive effects”.
“Why buy obsolete Puma trainer reconnaissance planes from the USA and filthy machine guns to take out an enemy hiding in a forest?
“Why payAmerican government billions of dollars for the purchase of the imaginary turcan aircrafts even when the money was not appropriated and approved by the National Assembly?
“Aircrafts so old that crashed landed into a forest 21 hours to the main event on a mere practice for the 2018 Independence Day is shameful”.
The group decried “the deceitful prognosis and incapacity of this present administration to genuinely fight terrorism without hegemonic and religious considerations.”
“Throwing half hearted and starved troops to capture terrorists in the sambisa forest just before the collaborative religious moles in the Nigeria army who tip Boko Haram to withdraw and lay ambush against the military is not the essential way to prevail and triumph.
“After Boko Haram is tipped to ambush and withdraw, the Nigeria troops described as ‘gallant’ would shoot their way into the empty villages on NTA and entice young volunteers like Hauwa and Red cross to return, knowing they are vulnerable and valuable hostages.
“When money is not released, received or shared amongst the terrorists and the negotiators, the innocent hostages are killed.
“The Ministry of Information is silent. The Military reports cook-up stories of victory. This is business as usual. Can Buhari win this fight against terrorism with this unacceptably conventional attributes?
“The sad reason why we doubt all these malfeasances is that both the terrorists and the so called negotiators hired by the northern dominated Nigerian Security Forces are locked in a symbiosis of death with common ethnic survivalist interests which transcends national interests.
“Nigeria is surrounded by a US ring of devastating precision fire power 1000 miles or 5 cruise-Missile minutes away from destroying these terrorists, guided by satellite and eye in the sky AWACS and surveillance drones”.
The group suggested possible solutions to the Boko Haram menace in Nigeria.
“Nigeria is one of the West African Nations refusing to join the American-led Coalition to defeat ISIS in the Maghreb whose presence has invigorated Boko Haram. The solution to end these ruthless onslaughts is to depoliticize the military by mixing it with all religion in the top hierarchy of Nigeria security apparatus and formulate a sincere war plan with allies.
“The APC-led government, should join the coalition to defeat Al-Qaida in the Maghreb since we are surrounded by the Francophone countries under the French Military protection. Senate should demand an end to the war and probe the APC government to account for every penny spent in fighting Boko Haram.
“There should be no more continuous death of the likes of the Hauwas, the Dapchis, the Chiboks and other abducted innocent Nigerians by the terrorists at the expense of maintaining a feudal religious hegemony in the 21 century”.
