The Abia State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Donatus Nwankpa, has said that South East zone should be allowed to produce the Nigerian President in 2023 after President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office

Nwankpa who stated this Monday in Umuahia said it would be a great injustice to deny Ndigbo the opportunity of producing Nigeria ‘s president in 2023.
promises.
” Until the South East is given the presidency, we can’t say the civil war has ended. Buhari has the integrity to hand over power to South East after his second tenure. “
He urged Ndigbo to support President Buhari’s re-election bid as he is determined to hand over power to them in 2023.
Asked if the APC in the zone had extracted commitment from Buhari that he would hand over power to a successor from South East in 2023, Nwankpa said he had strong faith Buhari would live to his promises.
Nwankpa who said APC remained the closest way South East could clinch the presidency urged Ndigbo to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid in 2019.
This, according to him will prepare the ground for the emergence of Nigerian President of South East extraction in 2023.
He said that contrary to misconception in some quarters, APC meant well for Ndigbo, disclosing that very soon Biafra soldiers would start receiving pensions.
” Every zone has produced the Presidency. By 2023 it will be the turn of South East to produce the president.”
He said Buhari had shown he had love for Ndigbo and had given the people a sense of belonging despite the challenges before him.
“South East cannot complain. Buhari inherited a lot of challenges but he had done so well.
” He has lifted Nigeria from economic recession to economic boom. Nigeria is now the fastest growing economy in Africa ahead of South Africa and Egypt.
On the choice of Peter Obi as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , Atiku Abubakar, the APC Chairman said Obi would not deliver South East zone to PDP in 2019.
Nwankpa who said Obi lacked the popularity, followership, and political clout to deliver Atiku in the zone.
He said Atiku should not be deceived into believing that the South East is a stronghold of the PDP, claiming that the party is not as popular as it claims.
His words : ” PDP has never won any election in the South East ; its victory has been based on manipulation and conspiracy with security agents. But this time votes will count.
” Choosing Obi as running mate to Atiku won’t save PDP. Atiku has no followership in South East. PDP has expired in South East.
” Obi is not a household name that can cause an earthquake. He even lost election in his home in Anambra.
” Obi is no match to names like Ogbonnaya One, Ngige, Orji Uzor Kalu or Okorocha that ring bell. If Obi is in APC he will be in our second eleven “.
