Seasoned journalists, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, has emerged the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Isiguzo who is the immediate-past Vice – President of NUJ Zone C ( South East), polled 343 votes to beat the incumbent Odusile who got 329 votes.
He emerged at the National Congress of NUJ held at Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Isiguzo who is very popular among journalists across the country enjoys the support of many state councils of NUJ.
The Abia -State born Enugu -based Correspondent of THISDAY Newspapers is the second South Eastern to occupy such exalted position in NUJ decades after another Abian , Bonnie Iwuoha held the position though through the court.
Meanwhile there has been wild jubilation among journalists in Abia as soon as the news of his victory filtered in.
Journalists at NUJ Press Centre Umuahia who had been monitoring developments at Abeokuta venue of the Congress burst into joy the moment they heard about the election results.
Wawa News Global reports that Isiguzoro’s nomination for was bought for him by Abia NUJ Council in a show of uncommon support.
Speaking with our correspondent, a veteran journalist, De Joe Akwarandu expressed joy over Isiguzo’s emergence.
His words : “I am over joyed. Isiguzo has broken the jinx. The Igbo man can now proudly have a sense of belonging in NUJ politics.
“This signals the fact that one day an Igbo will also occupy Aso Rock to help move Nigeria forward. May God give him the wisdom and strength needed to make impacts “.
