2019: Ikpeazu emerges Abia PDP governorship candidate
. Optimistic about victory in main poll

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu has emerged the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State for the 2019 poll.


Ikpeazu polled 1991 votes out of the 2207 accredited delegates for the exercise held Sunday at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
He was however the sole contender in the race.
The Chairman of the Governorship election committee, Chief Raymond Dokpesi who announced the result said a total of 2350 delegates were slated for the exercise but 2207 were accredited.
He said 23 votes were voided . However, 193 could not be accounted for judging by the figures declared by Dokpesi, and no explanations were given concerning the discrepancy.
In his acceptance speech, Ikpeazu thanked the delegates for giving him another opportunity to fly the PDP flag in 2019 .
He expressed hope his mandate would be renewed at the general poll.
Ikpeazu who had been adopted by various groups including the traditional rulers in the state for a second term in office promised to consolidate on the gains of his administration if re-elected in 2019.
The Governor who said his administration had performed very creditably declared that 70 out of the 120 roads he embarked upon had already been completed.
He also said three bridges including the first ever flyover in Aba had been built, while 611,000 children have been returned to school.
The Governor who said he intends to create 60,000 jobs between now and next five years boasted that Abia had become the “SME capital of Nigeria “.
Ikpeazu who expressed the confidence he would sweep the main poll in 2019 boasted that “no body will steal his mandate “.
He solicited the full support of the people and urged them to protect their votes.
Who is who in Abia PDP including former Gov. Theodore Orji now representing Abia Central senatorial zone, and other serving National Assembly members from the state defied the showers to participate in the exercise.
