By Steve Oko
As intrigues and last -minute scramble for votes intensify ahead of the governorship primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the party’s leaders in Abia State have been warned a youth leader of the party in Bende Local Government Area,  Comrade Okoroafor Kingsley Nduoma,  has warned against imposition of unpopular candidate.
APC Youth Leader in Bende Local Government Area,  Comrade Okoroafor Kingsley Nduoma,  who gave the warning said any attempt to impose “unmarketable person” as the party ‘s governorship candidate would be stoutly resisted.
He accused the said leaders of plotting to manipulate the outcome of the  primaries in favour an aspirant of Ngwa extraction.
The Youth Leader said that any attempt to impose an unpopular candidate would cost APC victory at the 2019 polls.
His words :”We are aware of the sinister attempt by some identified  leaders of Abia APC who have instituted various  unscrupulous channels to scuttle the wishes of the general populace of Abia APC members so as to rig the outcome of the gubernatorial primary in favour of one unpopular aspirant from the Ngwa axis.”
” The youths may revolt should the wish of the populace in the primaries be upturned,” he warned.
Nduoma argued that merit, capacity and competence , and  not premodial interests or clannish sentiments should be the determinant factors  of who flies the APC flag.
“What we do today or on sunday 30th september 2018 shall remain a constant conscience reminder of what we want God to allow to us come 2019 general election.
“What a good leader, aspirant, party Exco and member should be plotting is the 2019 general election and not our dear intraparty primaries which is just a figment of the expectations of the general election.
“We must first of all win the psychological war  before the actual war by electing a popular and a brand candidate that can lead this future war progressively.
” I want to advise our great leaders, party excos and the teaming members of our great party to please allow the decision of the electorates to prevail because the voice of the people is the voice of God.
” Let us give the people a chance to choose their leader. A popular candidate is an unnegotiable ticket in the general election.
“We should remember the case of Ohakim vs Rocha’s . It is my expectation that a true internal democracy should be exemplified through this primaries.
“We should be careful in the conduct of this primary if truely we love this party as any iota of rigging may ruin this party that has suddenly become an ivory tower.
He warned that those behind the plots should be held responsible for the ugly consequences of their evil intentions.
“We are wise now and all sensory searchlights beamed and beefed should any of those identified leaders proceeds with this their selfish ambition. We know you all and our ever ready hock eyes are on all of you.
“Respect the wish of the people to elect a marketable and saleable brand name that can add as a boost to assist other emerging candidates to win the general election.
“Let us not impose any candidate on the ground of loyalty. Voting is not, has not and will not be an elitest thing.”
