From Steve Oko, Umuahia
A frontline governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State, Dr. Uche Ogah, has promised to embark on total rehabilitation of the nightmarish Ohafia / Arochukwu federal road within one month after his swearing in if elected as Abia Governor in 2019.
Ogah who made the promise Thursday while addressing APC members at Arochukwu ahead of the party primaries on Saturday decried the poor state of the road which has remained a death trap for decades.
He said he would award contract for the rehabilitation of the road to a reputable international construction firm without waiting for the Federal Government.
Ogah who said he was crying as he was plying the road said Arochukwu people had suffered terriblely as a result of the deplorable state of the road.
” As I was coming I shed tears because of your bad road. When I visited you in 2014 I saw a bad road. Now the road has become worse.
” But I promise you that within one month if elected Abia Governor I will award contract for the rehabilitation of the road “.
He noted that the end of their woes was in sight as he would prioritise the rehabilitation of the road once elected ad Governor.
The industrialist further noted that the rehabilitation of the road had become necessary due to its economic importance to the state.
He said rehabilitation of the highway would facilitate the harnessing of the huge lime stone deposit at Arochukwu .
This, he added would attract investors
to the area and ultimately lead to the creation of more job opportunities.
He promised not to let the people down if elected as Governor while soliciting the total support of APC members in the area during the party ‘s primaries on Saturday.
Responding, APC Chairman, Arochukwu LGA, Chief John Okoro, described Ogah as a political messiah who would deliver the state from bondage.
He, on behalf of the people declared Ogah as the consensus candidate of Arochukwu people for the primaries.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Director General of his Campaign Organisation, Chief Ota Kalu ( OTK) , who also hails from the area assured him of the total support of the people in realising his ambition.
Other speakers including a former Council boss, Chief Annie Igbokwe; Dr. Chima Ogba, and a House of Representatives aspirant, Sunny Nwankwo affirmed Ogah as “an adopted son of Arochukwu “, and assured him of their unalloyed support.
Meanwhile APC members in 13 out of the 17 LGAs in the state have so far adopted Ogah as their consensus candidate ahead of the governorship primaries.
Ogah who later visited Ohafia was also adopted the people who trooped out to receive him with the popular Ohafia war dance as their consensus candidate .
He later left for Bende where he would wrap up his tour of LGAs ahead of the primaries.
Wawa News Global reports that the business mogul was received by a mammoth crowd of supporters and fans cutting across different parties in each of the places he visited.
