♠Breaking : NUJ President in multi-million naira scandal
. Accused of buying choice property in Abuja, Lagos
Ahead of the October 3rd delegates conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the incumbent National President of the union, Comrade Waheed Odusile, has been accused of involvement in multi -million Naira scandal.
The NUJ helmsman was also accused of trying to convert the union’s vehicle “purchased with the money given to NUJ by the Lagos State Government as his personal property.”
A statement by a Kaduna -based concerned journalists, Comrade Isah Rabiu, said that Odusile “must surely account for it and other shady deals of his inglorious three years first term.”
According to the statement , the NUJ boss also allegedly claimed that the N10 million donation by the Lagos State Government to the council was a personal gift to him.
He was also accused of buying choice property in Abuja and Lagos.
But when contacted, Odusile denied any involvement in the alleged scam, challenging his accusers to produce proof of their allegations.
He described the allegation as ” total nonsense and cheap blackmail” by his detractors.
Below is a full text of the statement :
“The Lagos State Government magnanimously donated the sum of N10million to NUJ in 2016 which Odusile claimed was given to him to buy a car for his personal use.
“The Union subsequently bought the car from RT Briscoe Abuja without approval from the Central Working Committe (CWC) or the National Executive Council (NEC).
“The black coloured Toyota Avensis car with registration number KWL 664 fb is on the verge of being converted by Waheed Odusile into his personal property.
“The vehicle which cost Nigeria Union of Journalists N10. 8 million will surely be accounted for by Waheed because it is the property of the union and so cannot be diverted by Waheed Odusile.
” He allegedly took N9 million donated to Plateau NUJ for the hosting of NUJ NEC meeting, till today no account
“N5 million from Borno State Government which he claimed he wanted to use to defray expenses during the National Conference organised by the union in Abeokuta, Ogun state is yet to be account for.
“N3 million from Borno State Government meant for Chairmen and Secretaries of NUJ councils in the North East during their meeting in Maiduguri, unaccounted for.
“N2 million from Zamafara State Government meant for the press week of the council, yet to be account for.
“N10 million from Ogun State Government which he claimed was for the hosting of delegates conference, not a dime has been released to the committee organising the election till date
“He has bought a duplex in Gwarimpa area of Abuja among other assets in Oyo, Lagos, Abeokuta, etc
“We must not allow another three years for Waheed until he accounts for all the monies he has taken from the union where he has become the sole recipient of alerts of the union’s account”.
