Automatic ticket : Ikpeazu’s commissioner blows hot, warns PDP against imposition

. Says party ‘ll lose  Abia in 2019 if…
By Steve Oko
Commissioner for Education Abia State and a senatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  , Professor Ikechi Mgboji,  has warned PDP against granting automatic ticket to serving lawmakers seeking re-election in 2019.

Professor Ikechi Mgboji
The Canadian -based lecturer and law luminary before his appointment three years ago by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu is seeking to represent Abia South senatorial district by retiring the incumbent Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe in 2019.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe
Commissioner for Trade and Investment,  Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, has also reportedly warned PDP against automatic ticket and imposition .
The former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor,  warned that any attempt to grant automatic ticket to anybody could lead to mass defection from PDP ahead of 2019.

Mgboji who spoke to Wawa News Global said he wished that the rumour making the rounds that PDP was contemplating granting automatic ticket to every serving lawmaker particularly those in the National Assembly were not true otherwise,  the party may not be able to survive its outcome.
He said it amounted to fraud for the party to ask people interested in elective positions to buy  nomination and expression of interest forms when in fact the party knew there were no vacancies in the positions.
” I want to believe that PDP is not for scammers.  Why make people pay for millions of Naira to buy forms and then you turn around and say you want to give automatic ticket to incumbents?
” I hope PDP has learnt its lessons that caused its misfortune in 2015. I want to believe that the days of impunity and imposition are over,  otherwise the consequences of any attempt to give automatic ticket to anybody now will be tragic.
Recall that Mgboji who claimed that the education sector in the state had witnessed unprecedented transformation under his watch had advised Senator Abaribe not to seek re-election in 2019 or be humiliated at the poll.
He contended that the third -term senator should be satisfied with the number of years he had represented the zone at the red chamber, and honourrably bow out so that  fresh blood could be injected into the system.
Mgboji said Abaribe had reached retirement age, arguing that he was not elected a life senator.
Meanwhile the Chairman of PDP,  Chief Johnson Onuigbo has refuted the rumour of automatic ticket, insisting that every aspirant must be subjected to “free and fair primaries “.
He said PDP would no longer allow impunity, imposition and other undemocratic principles that made it crash out of power in 2015 to  repeat itself.
Checks by Wawa News Global however indicated that so far Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of Abia North zone,  and his Abia Central counterpart,  Senator Theodore Orji, have no challengers.
Unlike his colleagues however,  the re-election bid of Senator Abaribe of Abia South is under threat as many persons including  two serving Commissioners have thrown their hats in the ring.
His challengers particularly of Ukwa extraction contend that political power in the zone is lopsided in favour of the Ngwas against the Ukwa people as both Governor Okezie Ikpeazu,  and Senator Abaribe all hail from same Obingwa council.
Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu
Mgboji on the other hand argue that Abia South comprises three political blocs  – Ukwa,  Aba, and Obingwa,  adding that both Ukwa and Obingwa have had their fair share at the senate,  hence it is the turn of Aba bloc in 2019.
