Nigeria needs vibrant, energetic leader not lifeless President –  Saraki

. Says no country can develop by trial, error
. Promises restructuring
By Steve Oko
Senate President,  Dr. Bukola Saraki has said that what Nigeria needs in 2019 is a vibrant, energetic and articulate leader that will put it on the path of greatness , and not a lifeless President that is bereft of ideas and economic roadmap.
Saraki posited this while addressing the leadership and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  in Abia at the party’s secretariat Friday in Umuahia.
The Senate President who was in Abia to canvass support for his presidential ambition said he had both the stamina and needed experience to navigate Nigeria out of the woods.
Saraki who said Nigeria’s major challenge was poor leadership, promised to bring to bear his wealth of experience both in the private and public sectors to redirect the country to greatness.
” What we need is somebody who can grow our economy. We need someone who can make Nigeria work.
“No country can grow without the private sector. We need somebody with the private sector experience ; we need someone who understands the language of the private sector.
” We need somebody who has the experience and the political sagacity “
Saraki said he had the competence and capacity to lead Nigeria if given the opportunity having distinguished himself first in the private sector, then as Governor and now as Senate President.
The former Governor of Kwara State said he would also restructure Nigeria if voted in as President,  wondering why some people are opposed to restructuring.
” Without restructuring we cannot move ahead as a country. I don’t know why some people are afraid of restructuring?  I will restructure so that our states can grow “.
Saraki who regretted that Nigeria is now more divided than ever,  promised to promote unite and mutual trust through inclusive governance.
“Under my watch we shall have a Nigeria that represents all of us. We will have a Nigeria where appointments will be made based on merit and equity “.
Saraki noted that the Igbo play great role in Nigeria’s economic growth and survival and deserve encouragement not suppression.
He recalled that why the Senate made a bill compelling federal government agencies to patronize locally made products was because of the ingenuity of Aba artisans.
He said he was very proud of Aba artisans , and would always promote their activities.
Saraki therefore solicited the votes of Abia PDP delegates in the forthcoming PDP national convention.
Some of the eminent personalities on the entourage of the Senate President were former Abia Governor and the incumbent senator representing Abia Central district,  Senator Theodore Orji;  and Chairman South East senators caucus, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Others were Senator Dino Melaye ; Senator Chris Anyanwu of Owerri zone ; Mao Ohuabunwa ; former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okukpe, among others.
Responding,  PDP Chairman,  Chief Johnson Onuigbo said Saraki had all it takes to lead Nigeria,  describing him as the face of the “Not too Young to Run”.
