Abia South senatorial race : Don’t be greedy, Ngwa has got its fair share, it’s Ukwa turn, 12 years is enough, perish your re-election bid, Emeka Stanley tells Abaribe
By Steve Oko
The immediate past Chairman of Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission ( ASOPADEC), Chief Emeka Stanley, has advised Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe representing Abia South zone to perish his re-election bid in 2019.
Abaribe who hails from Obingwa has been representing the zone at the senate since 2007.
Chief Stanley gave the advice Wednesday during an interview with newsmen when he came to submit his senatorial nomination form at the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP).
The former Deputy Speaker Abia House of Assembly said Abaribe who would have spent 12 years at the red chamber by 2019 should be satisfied with the number of years he had held the people’s mandate, and be ready to bow out honourably.
He said that it was not in contention that Abaribe is a vocal and vibrant senator but he should give way for fresh blood to be injected into the system.
Chief Stanley further argued that Abaribe who is from Ngwa bloc should not return to the senate as that will amount to shortchanging the Ukwa people.
He said that the Ngwa clan had dominated the seat since inception, taking five slots cumulatively while the Ukwa bloc only had one.
Stanley therefore urged Abaribe and other senatorial aspirants from Ngwa extraction to perish their ambition so as to allow their Ukwa kinsmen take their turn in 2019 in the spirit of Abia charter of equity.
” Abaribe should quit when the ovation is high. 12 years is enough. He should respect equity. The Senate is not meant for Ngwa alone “.
Stanley said he had all it takes to give the zone a quality representation at the senate come 2019.
He however said he would not dump PDP if he fails to secure the party’s ticket “provided the primaries are free and fair “.
