Abia: Scores dump APC for PDP as Apugo empowers youths, women

Apugo dolling out cash as empoerment to constituents .

Scores of All Progressive Congress ( APC) members in Umuahia East State constituency have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) as the lawmaker representing the constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo distributed empowerment items to youths and women in the area.

Ibeku youths had organised a civic reception in honour of Apugo for his quality representation at the House , his many developmental strides and milk of human kindness.

The youths who had thronged out in their numbers at Nkata Primary School venue of the event also endorsed Apugo for a second term in office.

Responding , Apugo said he was humbled by the decision of the youths to endorse him as their consensus candidate in 2019.

He promised to attract more developments to the constituency and to continue to use his contacts to better the lives of the people.

The lawmaker who is widely acknowledged for his numerous empowerment programmes which have positively impacted on so many lives said he would not relent in his humanitarian gestures.

He later distributed N30,000 each to over 40 youths and women from various communities in the constituency to enable them set up their vocations for self reliance.

Apugo said the best way to reduce poverty and crime in society “is to empower the youths” so they could be positively engaged.

Meanwhile, scores of APC members in the area dropped their brooms and ran into the big PDP umbrella for shelter.

The brooms which symbolised APC were later set on fire in the open field to the admiration of the crowd.

The ceremony attracted the presence of notable politicians in the state including the Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kanu; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chris Enweremmadu, among others.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Kanu said the mammoth crowd at the event was an eloquent testimony and public confirmation of Apugo’s rising political profile and popularity in the constituency.

He described him as a true friend and an indispensable political arsenal in the House cum Abia politics.
