Abia best WAEC candidates get N1m cash reward each from Gov Ikpeazu

Three most outstanding candidates from Abia State in the just -concluded Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, SSCE, organised by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) have received a cash donation of N1 million each from Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu.
The beneficiaries include Master Ifeanyi Kanu from Ohafia education zone ( Abia North senatorial district) ; Samuel Ezenna from Government College Umuahia (Abia Central); and Ogbonna Dike from Government College Ehere Aba (Abia South zone).
Gov Ikpeazu who handed the largess to them Monday during the 27th anniversary of the creation of Abia State at the International Conference Center Umuahia, said the gesture was to encourage hard work and academic excellence among Abia students.
The Governor expressed delight that Abia had for three years consecutively maintained the first position as the best performed state in WAEC exams.
He explained that he decided to select the most outstanding student from each of the senatorial districts to encourage excellence and engander healthy competition among students.
The Governor said his administration would continue to support and promote education in the state as it remained the bedrock of every society.
He charged the beneficiaries to double their efforts in academic prowess as they move on to the next cadre in their academic pursuit.
Wawa News Global reports that the beneficiaries were over joyed by the Governor’s gesture even as they firmly clutched the envelope containing the cash obviously to leave nothing to chances.
They were later smuggled out of the podium by protocol officers apperantly to avoid unnecessary monitoring by the prying eyes of the mammoth crowd which had gathered for the Abia @ 27 celebration.
