Member representing Umunneochi state constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikedi Ezekwesiri, has applauded the member representing Isiukwuato /Umunneochi federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejiocha for defecting to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), saying her defection will bring tremendous benefit to the state.
The three -term federal lawmaker dumped her former party, the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) on Tuesday when she registered with APC at her Isuochi ward.
Wawa News Global had three days before the action, exclusively reported of her imminent dumping of the ‘Big umbrella’.
Addressing newsmen Friday in Umuahia, Ezekwesiri saluted Onyejiocha’s courage to dump PDP, saying she has made a wise decision.
He said PDP had become very unpopular in the state and needed to be voted out of power come 2019 to give Abias the change they desire.
Ezekwesiri said Onyejiocha’s defection to APC would also boost the party’s fortunes in 2019.
His words : “Hon Onyejiocha movement to APC will expand the political scope of the people, her constituency and the state, as it is time for celebration as the political amazon joins the moving train”.
“Her joining the APC has answered the question which most people who are worried have been asking, who will bail the cat? She is the one to bail the cat as she has the political strength both externally and internationally to do that and achieve results”.
Ezekwesiri who described Onyejiocha as an asset and indispensable political arsenal said she had given her constituency quality representation at the green chamber.
The former Minority Leader, Abia House of Assembly said Onyejiocha had assisted no fewer than 400 youths from the constituency in securing jobs.
When asked if her fourth term bid would not suffer a set back on the principle of equity and justice as Isiukwuato LGA insists on taking its turn in 2019, Ezekwesiri said merit and competence would decide the poll.
He said Onyejiocha had so endeard herself to her constituents that they are not bothered about zoning but performance.
Ezekwesiri who said Onyejiocha “is well grounded” in the constituency added that the youths, men and women including the clergy who begged her to dump PDP are curiously waiting to give her their massive support in 2019.
“We the youths, men and women including the clergy had to go on our knees to beg her to join APC, we are going to also go on our knees to beg her to run for the Federal House of Representatives again”.
“APC is not the ruling party in the state, so the issue of zoning is not in our party as zone throws up mediocre who when they go there will not be able to give our people quality representation”.
“The issue of it is the turn of Isuikwuato does not arise as there has never been any election in which an Umunneochi candidate will vie for and an Isuikwuato candidate will not challenge it to the last court, so it is an election, let the best win”.
Ezekwesiri said Onyejiocha’s defection was a heavy blow on PDP, boasting that with the development APC will sweep the entire constituency come 2019.
He urged the people to vote out PDP in the polls.
