Isiguzo condemns demolition of FRESH radio station
By Steve Oko
A frontline presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),  Comrade Chris Isiguzo, has strongly condemned the demolition of FRESH radio station cum Music House of Yinka Ayefele in Ibadan by the Oyo State Government.
The N800 million structure was pulled down on Sunday by the state Government on flimsy excuse that it obstructed the master plan of the city.
But the action of government has since sparked a public outcry as well as local and international condemnation with many describing it as barbaric and attempt by the All Progressive Congress  , APC-led administration to gag the press.
Isiguzo who is the incumbent NUJ National Vice President,  Zone C,   in a press statement issued by his Rescue Mission Campaign Organisation said the action of the Oyo State Government was a deliberate attempt to muscle the media, and called on Nigerians of good will to stand against such undemocratic impurities.
The release which was signed by the Director General of the Organisation,  Comrade Ali Atabor,  said such regrettable and draconian act posed serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
The statement read in part : “It is really unfortunate that such a reprehensible act still takes place in a democracy.
“The Media played vital role in ensuring the return of Nigeria to a democratic rule and for the same people who have become beneficiaries of the efforts of the media to turn around to engage in mindless attacks against the media is unfortunate.
“The defence of the Oyo State Government that the building contravened laid down rules of the state’s town planning authority is in itself laughable.
“We want to state it categorically that no matter the efforts of anti-democratic forces to undermine, suffocate and intimidate the media, we shall not only remain undaunted but also committed to our constitutional mandate as conscience of the Society.
“The Federal Government and indeed all men of goodwill should also rise in condemnation of this despicable act.
“We shall no longer accept this. Enough is enough.”
