Chidi Nwosu emerges Abia SDP chairman

Former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Nwosu, has emerged as the state Chairman of the Social Democratic Party ( SDP).

The lawmaker who was until his new portfolio, the Steering Committee Chairman of the party, emerged after the state congress of the party held weekend in Umuahia.

Other state executive members of the party that were elected at the congress include: Juliet Nwabuike, Deputy Chairman; Okereke Ogbonna , Secretary; and Ukpai K. Ukpai, Treasurer.

Zuru Oforue, Emma Uhara, and Isaac Nwankwo were elected Vice Chairmen for Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South respectively; while Ikechi Osundu emerged the Publicity Secretary.

In his acceptance speech, Nwosu said SDP was already witnessing large influx of members across the 17 Councils in the state.

He expressed hope that the party would sweep the 2019 polls considering its growing popularity both in the state and the country.

Nwosu said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party , PDP-led administration in the state should start preparing its hand-over note , saying it has failed to meet the aspirations of the people.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the state congress committee, Mr. Effiong Umah, thanked delegates to the congress for their peaceful comportment and urged them to remain steadfast in the party.

He said SDP was the party to beat in the 2019 election, adding that a number of notable political bigwigs across the country are on their way to the party.

The congress was attended by large members of SDP from the 17 Local Government Areas in the state.
