Senator Mao Ohuabunwa broke down in tears yesterday at Umucha Amuda Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State when he was told of a three -year old pupil that was allegedly kidnapped in school.
Ohuabunwa had gone to commission a water project he attracted to the community when he received the sad news.
The victim, Master Ekperedike Grace Emeze, according to the family source, had gone to school with his siblings two weeks ago but his whereabouts had remained unknown since then.
According to the source, the school bus picked him along with his siblings in the morning and conveyed them to school, but after school had dismissed the little boy could not be accounted for.
” The siblings said he collected his food pack for lunch during break but when school dismissed they started looking for him but didn’t see him again “, the source said.
The source said that every effort to locate his whereabouts had not yielded any fruit.
It was also gathered that the family had not been contacted for any possible payment of ransom, thus heightening fears that ritualists might be behind the abduction.
Meanwhile the senator who visited the victim’s parents expressed fury over the sad development.
He strongly condemned the dastadly act which he described as inhuman.
Ohuabunwa made a passionate appeal to those behind the disappearance of the boy to free him so he could be reunited with the family.
He asked them to consider the emotional trauma the innocent boy and his parents are currently going through.
The senator tasked security agencies to beef up security around schools in the face of the deteriorating security situation in the country.
He challenged security agencies in the state to intensify search efforts towards recovery of the boy.
Ohuabunwa also tasked management of schools to put in place alternate security measures to complement government’s efforts towards securing their pupils and students.
Responding, the father of the victim, Ichie Uziza Emeze, who is a member of the traditional ruler’s cabinet thanked the senator for making out time to visit the family.
He said the family had been devastated since the incident occurred as they anxiously imagine the fate of their son.
The father appealed to the abductors to free his son and end the family’s misery.
In his remarks, the traditional ruler of the community, HRH, Eze Wilson Egbo, said he had suspended indefinitely, his annual New Yam Festival pending because of the rare incident.
He described the incident as very strange in the community, and appealed to government to come to their rescue.
