NASS leadership : Nigeria unfair to S’East – NYCN

From Steve Oko
The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has accused the Federal Government of being unfair to the South East geopolitical zone.
According to NYCN South East has been excluded from the political equilibrium of Nigeria, a development it said was a threat to national unity.
National Vice President of NYCN, Prince Chibuike Echem, who spoke on the heels of the outcome of the election of the principal officers of the National Assembly, criticized the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC for not considering the zone for the position of presiding officer.
The NYSC chieftain made the outburst during the investiture   on former Commissioner for Commerce & Industry in Abia State, Prince Emeka Okafor as a Patron of  NYCN and his conferment as a Grand Commander of the Abia State chapter of NYCN.
He said the political configuration of Nigeria was lopsided against the South East zone, and called for the accommodation of the zone to foster trust and national cohesion.
NYSC also bitterly  complained against the non-inclusion of youths in position of authority and governance.
He insisted that Nigeria could not record any remarkable progress unless the youths were carried along.
On the investiture on Okafor, he said the recognition was based on the contributions of the former Commissioner towards youth development.
Responding, Prince Okafor thanked NYSC for considering him for the honour, and promised to sustain his efforts towards youth development.
He noted that he had always been passionate about youth development, adding that the recognition would spur him to do more.
The former Commissioner bemoned the neglect of the Nigerian youths in the scheme of affairs,  positing that until adequate attention was given to youth empowerment, Nigeria’s security challenges would continue to deteriorate.
” Kidnapping, robbery and terrorism will continue to grow worse until youths are fixed “, he said.
He urged government at all tiers to come up with concrete agenda for youth empowerment to save Nigeria from the impending doom.
Okafor, who also urged the youths to be united in championing their cause, however advised them against resorting to crime as an alternative to survival.
Earlier in his remarks, the Abia State Director of Youth Development, Dr. Temple Nwosu described Okafor as a man with special passion for youths, saying the award on him “is well deserved”.
Speaking also, a member of the Board of Trustees of NYCN, Hon. Uscar Kalu noted that since 2012 when the award was institutionalised, Prince Okafor was the first person to be confered with the prestigious award.
The event attracted the leadership of NYCN from different states in South East.
