Sen Lawan wins, sworn in as senate president

Senator Ahmed Lawan from Yobe State has emerged as the President of the 9th Senate.
He polled 79 votes to defeat his only rival, Senator Ali Ndume from Borno State who scored 28.
Only 107 out of the 109 senators participated in the exercise as two senators elect from Imo State are yet to be admitted into the red chamber .
Senator Lawan who is the preferred candidate of his party, the All Progressive Congress, APC has since been sworn in as the Senate President by the Clerk of the Senate.
Ndume was the adopted candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP but the outcome of the election showed not all PDP senators voted in his favour.
