Senator Theodore Orji representing Abia Central senatorial district has been declared winner of the senatorial contest held on Saturday.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate humiliated his main challenger, and predecessor, Senator Nkechi Nwogu of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Orji’s victory was a landslide having polled a whopping 55,461 votes while his closest rival, Nwogu,  came a distant second with 29,860.
Chidi Ajegbu of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA,  finished third with 19,534.
The result was declared Monday morning at the senatorial collation centre located inside INEC office at Adelabu Street Umuahia.
The results were declared by the Returning Officer,  Professor Ndukaku Yusuf Omeh of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike.
Meanwhile, there was eruption of  wild jubilation across the district as soon as Orji was formally declared winner of the contest.
Abia Central senatorial race was among the keenly contested as Orji’s challengers had vowed to humiliate him.
Senator Nwogu had during the campaigns boasted of how she would retire Orji from the red chamber, a threat the former Governor never took for granted as he greatly mobilised his kinsmen and supporters for the polls.
A further breakdown of the results showed that Nwogu suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of Orji even in her Osisioma native Local Government Area .
While Orji swept Osisioma with a whopping 5849 votes, Ajegbu of APGA scored 3202 to come second while Nwogu crawled behind with 2086 votes.
