The presidential and national assembly elections in Abia State were characterised by late arrival of materials and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
In all the polling booths visited, anxious voters were observed waiting for the arrival of INEC officials and materials for the exercise.
As at 9:30 when our correspondent visited some of the centres including Lauretta Primary School Ugwunchara, and Ugba Primary School Nkata Ibeku no INEC official was in sight.
The story was the same at Amuzukwu Secondary School and other polling units in Umuahia metropolis.
But INEC ad-hoc staff later arrived Ugba primary school around 10:am amidst grumblings by voters who were anxious to perform their civic responsibility.
Some voters : Oliver Ndife, Chris Igwe who spoke to our correspondent expressed disappointment at the development.
They said they were sad at the late commencement of polls in Abia which theh alleged was a ploy to disenfranchise the people.
“Why will the polls be commencing late in Abia while President Muhammadu Buhari had already cast his ballot in Katsina “, queried an angry voter.
Meanwhile there was large turnout of voters in all the centers visited .
