Osisioma pipeline explosion : Atiku sends Obi to Abia, donates N10 m to victims

As last Friday’s pipeline explosion in Abia State still elicits commiserations from Nigerians, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has donated N10 for the medication and upkeep of the survivors.

About 24 corpses were recovered from the scenes of the explosion while scores who sustained various degrees of burns are still receiving treatment at various hospitals.
Atiku has deployed his running mate, Peter Obi to the state who visited some of the affected communities.
Obi who was received earlier on arrival by Gov Okezie Ikpeazu at the Government House Umuahia said he was sent by Atiku to commiserate with the state over the unfortunate incident.
He commended the State Government for its efforts towards alleviating the pains of the victims. 

Obi pledged the support of his principal in the efforts towards rehabilitating the victims particularly those still at the hospitals.
He later went to the scene of the explosion in company of Gov Okezie and some members of the Atiku /Obi Campaign Organisation.
Speaking later with newsmen after visiting the communities, Obi expressed shock and sadness over the incident which he described as a serious disaster.

He condoled with the government and people of the State over the sad incident, adding that it was a blow to the entire country.
Receiving Obi earlier at the Government House, Ikpeazu thanked Alh. Abubakar for finding time to commiserate with “Abia in her moment of grief.”

Ikpeazu who gave the casualty figure as 147 said the victims had been profiled.

He lamented that many lives were lost, buildings destroyed and many people made destitutes.
Ikpeazu however said the state government was making spirited efforts towards bringing succour to the affected people.
The Governor said the state government had already set up a panel of enquiry to ascertain the cause of the explosion with a view to averting any future recurrence.
He pledged support for Atiku /Obi joint ticket.
