. Says Ndigbo ‘ll vote against anti -restructuring candidates, parties
By Steve Oko
The national leadership of Ohanaeze Youth Council ( OYC), has said that the group would soon make its position public over its preferred candidate for the 2019 presidential poll.
OYC said Igbo interest would be paramount in determining which of the presidential candidates that would receive the support of the race in 2019.
OYC in a press statement issued Wednesday said it was still consulting with the parent body of Ohanaeze as well as the Imeobi of Ohanaeze to take a unanimous position on the matter.
The statement jointly signed by the Acting National President of OYC, Dr. Kingsley Dozie; and the National Secretary, Uchenna Madubuihe said Ndigbo would only vote for any presidential candidate “that believes in restructuring “.
OYC said in clear terms that any candidate or political party not favourably disposed to restructuring should forget the support of Ndigbo.
“We will liase with our parent body and Imeobi of OHANAEZE NDIGBO alongside with our brothers after our consultations and take our definite position where IGBO YOUTHS will pitch our tent in 2019 General Election .We must get it right this time.”, OYC said.
OYC however commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for electing ” an apostle of restructuring” as its presidential candidate.
The Igbo youth body said it would mobilise Ndigbo home and abroad to vote massively for any candidate that would be adopted by Ohanaeze after due consultations.
OYC urged Ndigbo irrespective of their party affiliations to comply with any directive from Ohanaeze on the choice of presidential candidate adopted by the apex Igbo body which, according to it will be in the overriding interest of Ndigbo.
