Abia 2019: Ogah polls 86,879 votes to emerge APC governorship candidate

Oil magnet, Dr. Uche Ogah has emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State.
He polled 86,875 votes out of the total vote cast of 106,160 in the direct primaries held Tuesday.
His closest rival, former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike polled 10,889 votes to come a distant second while Chief Friday Nwosu came third with 3529 votes.
Former Deputy Governor, Chris Akomas scored 2143 to place fourth while former Nigeria High Commissioner to South Africa, Okey Emuchey came fifth with 1270 votes.
Prince Paul Ikonne came sixth with 999 votes while Ikechi Emenike came last with paltry 455 votes.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee and former Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. David Iyoha who announced the result at the APC state secretariat Azikiwe Road Umuahia said Ogah had satisfied the constitutional requirements of the party and declared him winner of the contest as well as the party’s candidate in the 2019 governorship poll.
Declaration of results which started around 8:00 pm Tuesday ended around 3:45 am Wednesday when the last Local Government result from Bende came in.
The exercise was generally peaceful.
Meanwhile there was eruption of jubilation both at the venue and on the streets of Umuahia when the news spread to town.
Ogah who was personally present at the party office all through the declaration of the result thanked the party members for giving him their mandate which he said was an act of grace.
